THE SCREENING BANANA

BENNET

What do bananas and our skin have in common? Spots. Large and small, light or dark, regular or jagged. Just like our moles. However, when it comes to skin, a spot can hide a melanoma. If diagnosed in time, melanoma has a 90% recovery rate. Yet, 54% of Italians have never had their moles checked. This is an alarming figure, especially considering that 13,000 new cases occur every year and that a simple visual self-examination is often enough to sound the alarm.

From this insight comes "The Screening Banana," a project developed for Bennet in collaboration with Fondazione Veronesi to raise awareness about the importance of early diagnosis.

In all Bennet hypermarkets, a removable sticker has been placed directly over the natural spots on bananas. This sticker lists the fundamental parameters for a mole self-exam: color, size, symmetry, and borders. It is a simple tool that helps people "read" their own moles, supported by a QR code leading to in-depth resources on bennet.com.

In this way, an everyday task like grocery shopping becomes the spark for addressing vital social and cultural issues with a wide audience.
